FYI - I did hear back from the pro that made the video where he was using the combo and it was a Canon 12mm extension tube coupled to the Canon 1.4X III so I guess it "can work" if you are careful. Thanks for the reply and sorry you had to go to all the trouble of describing the effects of teleconverters and extension tubes - I am VERY familiar with the optics etc. I also should not have said "I read" about this setup.
